Toxins In Our Home + Simple Steps to Get them Out

Spread the love

Did you know there are toxins in our home that can harm our brain, body and the health of our family? I didn’t, I trusted the “system” and paid the price.

Here are simple steps I made to get the toxins out and change our life.

My laundry smelled like a spring breeze not so long ago. I wore a spray of my favorite perfume each day and never gave a thought to the headache it caused. Our linen closet stocked with bath products form my favorite store. .

Toxins filled our home. Not understanding the damage being caused I continued to use them.

I remember pouring loads of lavender-scented baby wash into the tub as my littles played. They innocently painted on our bathtub walls playing in their bubble bath…bubbles covering them from head to toe. Smiles of delight as they soaked in synthetic chemicals far longer than they should.

It was a dreamy time in my life.

A time when I had no clue that “Fragrance” was found in baby products, perfumes and pretty much EVERY personal care item we used. I was blind to the fact that these toxins could destroy my health and more importantly the health of my children. I had no clue I was poisoning their body systems day by day. Consequently little by little those chemicals would sit in their body’s until one day it would be too late.

I never thought to look up Sodium Laurel Sulfate the emulsifying ingredient in our laundry soap, bath soap, shampoo.

Even that famous baby brand of sensitive skin wash I used on my kids for MANY years included SLS. Cancer, neurotoxicity, organ toxicity, skin irritation, and endocrine disruption are also linked to SLS. . The toxins in our home were everywhere.

Since our bodies lack the enzymes needed to break down certain chemicals, those chemicals accumulate over time. Therefore, consumer advocacy groups such as the EWG advise us to use SLS-containing products with caution.

I trusted the system. Are you? We are the gatekeepers of our home.

Have you ever trusted the “system”?

Believing that companies would only share the safest products. I trusted my pediatrician would let me know if products and foods I was supplying my family was not in their best interest. I was wrong. There were toxins in our home. No one shared with me the tragic possibilities of living a toxic life.

I learned, I am the only gatekeeper to our home. It’s up to me to get rid the of the toxins and understand the consequence of having them around if I do not.

I took simple steps to get the toxins out and you can too.

Dr. Doris Rapp, author of Our Toxic World: A Wake-Up Call, shares “Environmental illness can be every bit as real as that caused by germs … and can trigger serious physical, neurological, and psychological problems.” She states symptoms of environmental illness can include “increased fatigue, moodiness, depression, irritability, hyperactivity, aggression, and an inability to focus and remember.”

Toxins are not limited to Sodium Laurel Sulfate. We have to be aware of other neurotoxins.

Neurotoxins are substances that cause damage to our brain. These dangerous toxins can harm the central nervous system, interfering with healthy brain development and neurotransmitters.

The most commonly found neurotoxins include:

  • lead is discovered in lipstick
  • aluminum found in antiperspirants
  • mercury in some seafood
  • botulism, aka Botox.
Savvy Minerals Make up from Young Living found at a Mindfull Promise. Toxic Free make up for a life well lived.

Additionally, we need to seek out other hidden neurotoxins and chemicals in personal care and cleaning products.

The FDA simply does not approve ingredients before they go in our beauty and cleaning products. The FDA’s regulations were last updated in 1938!

We can not assume that our household and personal care products are safe.

I encourage you to take a look at the products you use in your home throughout the day. Do they contain any of the names listed below? Do a bit of research yourself and see if you are comfortable using these ingredients now that you know some of the risk involved.

  • Propylene Glycol
  • Methylisothiazolinone
  • Fragrance
  • Parabens (methyl, ethyl, propyl)
  • Sodium nitrate
  • Talc
Are the products in your home safe just because they say Natural, green or eco?

Don’t be thrown off by Green Washing.

Greenwashing can make a company appear to be more environmentally friendly than it really is. Companies have started realizing that doing good for the planet is good for business, so they use terms like “Natural,” “Green,” or even “Eco.”

According to EarthEcho International
“A more easily identifiable form of greenwashing can be found at your grocery store. Numerous companies have started using the word “natural” on their household cleaning and personal care products to entice consumers who are looking for an eco-friendly alternative. “Natural” may sound healthy and planet-friendly, however it means very little since there is no third-party certification required to make that claim.”

Really it comes down to YOU being an investigative reporter for your family and taking a few minutes to research what is optimal for your health and wellness.

I did not realize this for the longest time and trusted what was presented to me on Tv and store shelves. We use MANY natural products to avoid toxic overload in our home nowadays.

Switching and ditching makeup, bath products, cleaning, and laundry care items over the last two years have been a game-changer.

It’s not an overnight process, but I promise you the comfort it brings in knowing I am making wise choices for my family pays off.

Are you using toxic tampons? Here is what we did to make a change.

My girls and I have even made the switch to safer period products after discovering the seriousness of using feminine hygiene products that contain harmful chemicals.

An article at Women’s Voices for the Earth writes here that
“Past testing of tampons and menstrual pads have found pesticide residue, parabens, and phthalates linked to hormone disruption, antibacterial chemicals like triclosan, and various carcinogens including styrene and chloroform.”

We now happily use Lola products. From organic tampons to pads with wings, I know my girls are safe from toxins when using Lola for personal hygiene. They even have a cute “period box” for a first-timer and a safe sex wellness guide. Use my referral code to get $5.00 off your first Lola Order! When it comes to cleaning the house, I use baking soda, vinegar, and an essential oil multi-purpose cleaning concentrate product called Thieves cleaner.

I can clean floors, windows, toilets, and mirrors with just these three products! We also use the Thieves line for laundry and oral care. You can find out more about the products I use here. If you want to know how I save 24% even to further my savings, you can find out more here.

I am using a mineral makeup I love called Savvy Minerals for toxic free beauty. I make my own hairspray, body butter, and night cream myself with essential oils.

One other perk I should mention is the cost savings involved. I have saved hundreds of dollars by getting rid of toxic personal care and cleaning products in my home.

Less is more.
