Armpit Detox and the Truth Behind Your Pits

Spread the love

The truth is that detoxing your pits brings far greater value to your body and brain than just a quick sniff.

Why Detox in the first place you may wonder.

Antiperspirants and deodorants we commonly buy off the store shelves are loaded with numerous chemicals and synthetic ingredients. Those ingredients are what stop the sweat and the stink. Unfortunately, they also come with a price. The price of health and wellness.

Many Conventional stink and sweat stoppers are endocrine blockers and put hormone health in danger. Immune function can be suppressed, as well, these unnatural ingredients have the potential to lead to other complicated risks.

Our skin is the largest organ of our body.

What we put on our skin is directly absorbed into our body. Breastcancer.org states “  In 2019, an estimated 268,600 new cases of invasive breast cancer are expected to be diagnosed in women in the U.S., along with 62,930 new cases of non-invasive breast cancer. About 85% of breast cancers occur in women who have no family history of breast cancer.’

The Natural Cancer Institute (NIH) shares on their website “ Because estrogen can promote the growth of breast cancer cells, some scientists have suggested that the aluminum-based compounds in antiperspirants may contribute to the development of breast cancer (3). In addition, it has been suggested that aluminum may have direct activity in breast tissue (4).”

The information can be conflicting and always further research needed but that info alone is enough for me to stay clear of unnatural personal care products.

The ingredients I list are the ones we know to be a risk.

Would you swim with a shark with a skinned knee? No, why take the risk. The same is true for these ingredients. Why take the risk when you know of the danger.

Phthalates – Endocrine disruptor causing infertility

Propylene glycol – EWG states it carries the risk of allergies and immunotoxicity and yes a common ingredient in many personal care products. It’s also known as Antifreeze. Car yes. Body no.

Parabens – A hormone disruptor found in breast tissue of women with breast cancer.

Formaldehyde – Carcinogen. Very simple. Cancer.

Aluminum – Linked to cancer, Alzheimer’s disease, and numerous other health issues.

Before you make a switch to a natural deodorant you are going to want to detox your armpits of the chemicals you have been using for most of your life.

This is the underarm detox I have used and continue to suggest to people I know. You want to restore bacterial balance to your underarms as you begin to use natural deodorants.

The benefits,  less sweat, less odor, and less of an adjustment period when switching to an all natural deodorant.

The Mask (1)

Lymphatic Clean Up-

Our Lymphatic System needs a bit of support. Begin with dry brushing, I  like this bush and use daily before I shower. Gently brush outer armpits in a sweeping motion down towards the heart.

The Mask

Armpit Detox Mask-

Keep ingredients near the shower, mix and apply daily while in the shower.

1 tablespoon Bentonite Clay
1 tablespoon Apple Cider Vinegar
1 teaspoon of water or more until you reach a smooth consistency
5 drops Young Living Lemon, Tea Tree or Purification Essential Oil

Spread Mix Evenly underarms and allow to sit 15-20 minutes
Rinse with warm water, gently wipe off with a washcloth if needed
I use this detox daily for five days when transitioning deodorants. I continue with a weekly detox.

Pro Tip: You can use this mask on your face at the same time:) Use Lavender or Frankincense oil instead.

The Mask (2)

Tone and Balance-

I use Apple Cider Vinegar externally on my underarms to bring balance. Before applying natural deodorant I take a cotton ball and gently wipe my armpits with the vinegar. I have found that a daily shot of ACV mixed with water taken internally helps balance PH and support enzyme function making my gut health much stronger. When food is broken down properly there is less “smell” coming from my pits! ACV has been said to be antibacterial as well, it’s a win for your pits inside and out.

Additional Tips for stink-free underarms :

Drink plenty of fluids to stay hydrated. If you tend to carry excessive body odor be aware that the foods you eat play a role. Eliminate sugar, acidic foods and anything processed to optimize your gut health. Take a Probiotic, we have found Life 9  by Young Living to be best at our house. We also use these Enzymes to help break down the foods we eat and support our body to absorb what it needs and eliminate what it does not.

All of these steps will lead to underarms that are healthier and smell less like the pits!

Are you wondering what use AFTER the detox? I love Young Livings Thieves Toothpaste as a natural alternative to deodorant. I know it sounds silly but it works so well! You can find out more about Thieves toothpaste or Young Living’s natural deodorants here.
